Abstract

Contemporary organizational leadership is exercised not only through formal authority but also through narrative. This article offers an integrative review of the literature on the narrative function of leadership. It connects the foundational frameworks of Weber on charisma, Ricœur on narrative identity, Goffman on self-presentation, Weick on sensemaking and Czarniawska on organizational narration with research published since 2010. Three functions are identified: the construction of legitimacy, the production of organizational identity and the management of meaning in crisis situations. A section examines the limits and ethical risks of these practices. A final section discusses the relevance of the framework in the Moroccan context.
